Gig Meets PicNic

This summer, Nando’s will be taking their much-loved PERi-PERi chicken to the great British outdoors with three ‘gig meets picnic’ events and Haggerston Park, London last Saturday was the first one featuring live performances from some of Nando’s hottest fans including Dancing Lotus, Rizzle Kicks, Stooshe, Cover Drive and Clement Marfo & The Frontline hosted by Jameela Jamil commanding the party with plenty of sideshow entertainment to keep our PicNickers going.

I have to admit that at first I felt a bit lost as I didn’t recognise half of the names in the artists line up but the moment Dancing Lotus started playing I started enjoying the festival ambient specially as the skies opened and the sun started shining… Yes… It is possible to have a festival minus the mud!

Plenty of sun, good food, great music and beautiful people… That alone almost made it worth the one hour queuing up to get some chicken for lunch… But if there is something you cannot doubt is the good humour of the great british public when we get one of those rare perfect days to be outside… At some point I’ve heard something that actually made me crack up a big giggle:

And then Jameela Jamil urged everyone out of the queues and towards the stage because she had a big surprise…  At first no one gave her much attention… I mean… they’d stood their grounds for so long to eat some Peri Peri Chicken! I wouldn’t want to leave my place in the queue either!

And then she said 2 magic words: Ed Sheeran… The girls went wild… and some boys too… there was an exodus from the queues and everywhere else on the grounds towards the stage where he was singing Drunk, and Lego House… A great day just got better

Towards the end of Ed Sheeran’s presentation the Rizzle Kicks boys invaded the stage for an unexpected trio.

Yup… I can say for sure that it was a great day out and if you can get hold of tickets for the next ones as well (16th of June in Leeds and 23rd of June in Glasgow) Nando’s GigNics are a blast!! Even if you do have to wait for an hour to get food… Although that also has a bright side: First festival type event I’ve been with NO QUEUES for the toilets (even for the girls ones).
