One nation which is less explored by travellers, and which is included in Antler’s glamorous getaways, is Norway. Norway is an affluent Scandinavian country renowned for its fjords. It has stunning natural beauty, and this can be seen in both the winter and summer months. There is the opportunity to engage in winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding in the latter season, with the resort of Gello being among the best in the country. Norway is additionally one of the best places in Europe to see the Northern Lights, which shouldn’t be missed during a visit to Norway. One of the best places to do this is the Lofoten Islands.
Norway manages to combine this natural beauty with metropolitan tastes, and nowhere is this more apparent than the nation’s capital: Oslo. Oslo is a city with rich culture, and is a great place to begin or end any trip to Norway. This can be done in luxurious style by staying at the Rica Holmenkollen Park Hotel.
Similarly less travelled, and sharing a similar culture to Norway is Iceland. Iceland is particularly famous for its volcanic activity, in the form of astonishing volcanoes and boiling hot geysers. However, it also provides beautiful bleak vistas, and stunning glaciers. In the capital, Reykjavik, stands the stunning Hallgrims church, a testament to modern architecture standing at 73 metres high. If you do want to experience something completely out of the ordinary, you can go diving between two continent plates at Silfra Tectonic Fissure, or you can visit the recently discovered Búri. This cave was created by a river of running magma and is 32ft tall and 32ft wide.
It is not just countries that are less travelled, even UK counties hold a lot beauty and are ideal tourist destinations. The county of Cornwall is home to the world famous Eden Project as well as being a perfect location for people who love to surf. The city of St. Ives is picturesque and offers visitors to the city beautiful views and an array of attractions from bird watching to coastal walks.
The Bodmin Jail is a great place to visit if you are interested in history. The prison was known for its cramped conditions and is now a museum where you see what life was like for these prisoners. If you want to add to the experience of Bodmin Jail, you can go play part of the jury in a Victorian style courtroom and decide whether Matthew Weeks was guilty of killing his girlfriend, Charlotte Dymond. You will get to experience the trial and learn the outcome and how it relates to Bodmin Jail.
Seeing and doing are two concepts that avid travellers live by. With so many incredible destinations across the globe, it’s good to know where to start. Keeping an eye out for up and coming destinations means you can beat the tourist crowds and savour every moment.
